The speed of the front is estimated numerically using the shooting and relaxation...
متن کاملWavelets Based on Legendre Polynomials
We construct an orthogonal wavelet basis for the interval using a linear combination of Legendre polynomial functions. The coefficients are taken as appropriate roots of Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind, as has been proposed in reference [1]. A multi-resolution analysis is implemented and illustrated with analytical data and real-life signals from turbulent flow fields.
متن کاملThe Evans Function and Stability Criteria for Degenerate Viscous Shock Waves
It is well known that the stability of certain distinguished waves arising in evolutionary PDE can be determined by the spectrum of the linear operator found by linearizing the PDE about the wave. Indeed, work over the last fifteen years has shown that spectral stability implies nonlinear stability in a broad range of cases, including asymptotically constant traveling waves in both reaction– di...
متن کاملComputing Stability of Multidimensional Traveling Waves
We present a numerical method for computing the pure-point spectrum associated with the linear stability of multi-dimensional travelling fronts to parabolic nonlinear systems. Our method is based on the Evans function shooting approach. Transverse to the direction of propagation we project the spectral equations onto a finite Fourier basis. This generates a large, linear, one-dimensional system...
متن کاملStability of Concatenated Traveling Waves: Alternate Approaches
We consider a reaction-diffusion equation in one space dimension whose initial condition is approximately a sequence of widely separated traveling waves with increasing velocity, each of which is asymptotically stable. As in [25], [24], and [14], we show that the sequence of traveling waves is itself asymptotically stable: as t → ∞, the solution approaches the concatenated wave pattern, with di...
